Safeguarding is the process of protecting children and vulnerable adults against abuse.
It is important that your organisation:
- Has effective safeguarding practices in place that are part of the day to day operation of your Mosque, Madrasa, Islamic School or Community Centre.
- Has at least annual formal safeguarding training and refresher courses.
- Securely retains employment and training records, inspection reports, liability insurance policy records and all documents related to incidents. These documents should be kept for at least 50 years. All documents containing personal data should observe the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
- Has an ongoing review of your safeguarding policy to maintain current best practise and observe changes in law and legislation.
Your safeguarding policy must:
- Protect those in your care.
- Maintain the integrity and reputation of your organisation.
- Avoid allegations and legal action that can be damaging for all parties involved.
- Assist with the maintenance of your risk management programme to make sure you are providing a reasonable level of care.
