If you're running a Mosque, Madrassah or Islamic school, there is no legal obligation to have public liability insurance, but it would be foolhardy to operate without it.
Public liability insurance protects those who operate the above venues from being sued if anyone is hurt, or even killed, while they are within the buildings or grounds. Without this cover, they are responsible for any legal action taken against the establishment.
Protection In Case of Accidents
For example, if a piece of masonry came loose, fell on worshippers, pupils or visitors and injured them, they could sue the organisers.
That would mean you, as the people responsible, would have to pay their damages, legal costs and possibly medical expenses out of your own pockets.
The Situation With Contractors
Note that if you have contractors working in or a Mosque, Madrassah or Islamic school, your public liability insurance may not cover the actions of those workers if they caused an accident. It is therefore imperative that you ensure contractors have their own liability insurance.
Don’t take their word for it - insist on seeing their certificate and make sure it’s up-to-date.
Don’t Take The Chance
The purpose of insurance is to protect you from the fallout from accidents, so make sure your Mosque, Madrassah or Islamic school has adequate public liability insurance, or you could be facing very large bills.
